provincial government doesn't care about Newfoundland heritage

The Town does not have much to do with the sad affairs of provincial structures in Newfoundland. Provincial government does! The target should be Paul Davis, Minister Darin King and Minister Danny Crummel. Vote them out in 2015!! Service NL is a road block to opening heritage buildings. They either bankrupt those who do try to save these buildings or put them into a situation with “code” that would make it absolutely impossible to open causing decisions to be made not to renovate historical properties or just to demolish them. A 10 year old home will not pass code today. Service NL mandates that heritage property follow 2015 building code. Not only is this something that destroys heritage character but is excessively expensive that property owners cannot afford to take on the cost if they can even achieve what is required. Government has their own story to be sure (legislation… blabla) but the truth is that they are only protecting their own position. No one in the present government is out there protecting or promoting heritage or we would not be in the situation we are in today with heritage. They offer no solutions only obstruction. The PC party is supposed to be the party who supports business. They have not supported business owners rather creating a bureaucratic mess. Those business owners who were in the PC party have even pulled away from the non-sense. Danny Williams would have come in and provided solutions, but those are not the people in our government at this time. They have to go! Let’s hope the next government will be sensitive to these issues close to the people’s heart (heritage & culture) and someone will implement common sense for Service NL so for a change they can service the people who pay taxes instead of destroying businesses one by one with a maze of red tape and then stepping back and watching the economy, heritage & culture crumble in Newfoundland.
