Description
In 1973, a group of concerned citizens had a vision to create a community based organization that would address the various needs of the people of South Essex. The vision and efforts of two individuals mobilized the communities of South Essex to create the South Essex Community Council. Co-Founder Father G. Duchene said “The basic philosophy of the South Essex Community Council has always been ‘love thy neighbour’, which in practice means to serve one another.” Together with JoAnne Fillimore, Father Duchene and a group of committed and hard-working individuals created an organization that strives to provide excellent person-centred service to individuals with care and compassion. SECC governed by a Board of Directors and is a registered, non-profit, charitable organization whose mission is: “Helping people. Improving lives.” SECC provides three core services: Employment & Training, Language & Settlement, and Community Home Support Services. The organization also provides a variety of income and security programs such as Coats for Kids and Keep the Heat.
