• Cosmetic Botox

  Dynamic wrinkles are caused by contractions of the delicate underlying facial muscles when you smile, laugh or frown. The more emotion you show, the deeper these wrinkles and lines are likely to become. While you may have earned every one of your wrinkle lines, you no longer have to show them. Dr. Pascoe personally consults with every client and performs all Botox treatments. She has 13 years of experience in aesthetic medicine and 30 years of experience as a family physician. WHAT IS BOTOX? Botox is a purified protien made by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. In it’s purified form, it is made for the temporary relaxation of muscles. HOW DOES BOTOX WORK? Botox partially blocks the nerve impulses to the tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines. This causes the muscles that are related to expression to relax. After the solution takes effect the overlying skin will be smooth and unwrinkled while your untreated facial muscles will still function normally. AM I A CANDIDATE FOR BOTOX? Most patients are candidates for this procedure if they have dynamic wrinkles and lines. Contraindications generally are minimal therefore making this a suitable treatment for most patients. Patients that are pregnant or have neurological problems are not candidates. Dr. Pascoe will review your medical history to ensure that Botox is safe for you. HOW IS BOTOX TREATMENT PERFORMED? This is a simple and safe procedure. A tiny needle is used to inject small amounts of Botox into the area to be treated. Several injections are usually needed in specific muscles of the face. Natural facial expressions are preserved by targeting only wrinkle producing muscles. Most patients remark that there is minimal discomfort. You can resume most normal activities immediately. Botox generally takes 7-10 days to take full effect. HOW MANY BOTOX INJECTIONS WILL I RECEIVE? The number of injections you will receive depends on the area being treated and the strength of the muscles in that area. Just to give you a general idea however, most crows feet areas usually take 3 injections per side and most frown lines between your eyebrows need about 5 quick injections. Of course it’s up to you how many areas you want treated at one time. WHAT IS THE AVERAGE TREATMENT COST? Your cost not only includes the price o your product, but more importantly, the skill and expertise of your injector. Botox Cosmetic is a technique sensitive treatment. A cost for the area to be treated will be discussed with Dr. Pascoe. With 15 years of injecting experience, you can be sure your treatment is in good hands. ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS TO BOTOX? Temporary bruising of the injection site is the most common side effect. In some cases, Botox can migrate to the wrong muscle causing drooping of the eyelid or unevenness of the brows. With skilled technique and knowledge of the face and underlying muscles the chances of this are reduced to about 1%. Because the effects of Botox are completely reversible, any side effects are temporary. WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT? Most patients desire a more youthful appearance. Some prefer to look less “angry”, while others are concerned about preventative therapy. Whatever the reason, the outcomes are the same. Wrinkles that are controlled by muscle movement are decreased and smoothed. Wrinkles that are from sun exposure or not muscle related will not be affected by Botox. DOES BOTOX TREATMENT HURT? Dr. Pascoe uses very fine needles for Botox injections and she is an experienced injector so all you feel is a tiny poke when the needle first goes in. Botox is one of the most pain free procedures and there is no downtime afterward. HOW LONG DOES BOTOX LAST? Botox injections are temporary. On average the effect lasts 3-5 months with individual variations. Early clinical studies have indicated that the duration of treatment benefits are increased over time so that you could require injections less frequently in the future. DO MEN RECEIVE BOTOX INJECTIONS? Yes, men benefit from Botox treatments too! We see many men at Viva Medical Aesthetics who want to soften their forehead lines and crows feet to give them a more relaxed and youthful appearance. HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY TIME AFTER TREATMENT? After your treatment, you can resume your regular day. There is minimal downtime.

• Chemical Peels

  WHAT ARE CHEMICAL PEELS? Chemical peels are a proven and affordable method for providing an even and controlled shedding of damaged skin cells. HOW DO CHEMICAL PEELS WORK? The selected peeling chemicals are applied to the skin resulting in destruction of the “glue” that holds dead skin cells together. This process increases cellular turnover and improves the overall structure creating a more uniform and normalized skin. BENEFITS OF CHEMICAL PEELS Regular chemical peel treatments help correct skin pigmentation irregularities, mild sun damage, wrinkles and acne, giving you a smoother, healthier complexion with the added benefit of reducing follicular debris and blockage. The effect is a kind of ‘spring cleaning’ for your skin. TYPES OF CHEMICAL PEELS: We offer 2 different types of chemical peels: GLYCOLIC PEEL A high concentration of glycolic acid can remove cells in the upper layer of the skin (called the epidermis) exposing the lower layer of undamaged skin. It is generally used for mild skin scars and comedones. Glycolic acid has the smallest molecular particle size, is the most potent of AHA’s and thus penetrates more effectively and deeply than any other AHA. Available in 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% concentrations. LACTIC PEEL Lactic acid is much larger in molecular size, cannot penetrate as fast or as deeply as Glycolic acid, and is considered a moisturizing agent. For these reasons, Lactic acid is best suited for people who require a less aggressive exfoliation and milder approach to skin rejuvenation. A gradual smoothing, brightening, and clearing of skin blemishes will be accomplished. WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING AND AFTER A CHEMICAL PEEL? When the chemical peel agent is applied to the skin you may feel a burning sensation for a few minutes. AHA peels may cause a transient pink discolouration which quickly returns to normal. Occasionally very slight flaking in a few localized areas is seen for 1-2 days. Do not expect the skin to really peel. With AHA peels you can return to work immediately after your treatment. HOW MANY TREATMENT SESSIONS DO I NEED? To get best results peels have to be repeated. Most patients require 2-4 peels at 1-4 week intervals. Dr. Lyn Pascoe will work closely with you to determine the best number of treatments needed to reach your goals. COMBINATION THERAPY FOR MELASMA Glycolic peels combined with doctor prescribed cream (modified Kligman formula) can be very helpful for the treatment of melasma.

• Dermaplaning

  WHAT IS DERMAPLANING? Dermaplaning is a simple and safe manual technique for exfoliating the skin while removing fine vellus hair, also called peach fuzz. The procedure involves using a small, modified surgical blade to VERY gently scrape the surface of the epidermis with light, feathery strokes, leaving the skin smooth and vibrant. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS? Diminishes the appearance of dry, fine lines Removes “peach fuzz” Encourages faster cell turnover Smooths skin texture Results in a healthy more radiant appearance of the skin Allows peels to penetrate more deeply into the skin Prepares the skin for further rejuvenating procedures such as laser treatments WHY DO PEOPLE LOVE DERMAPLANING? It is non-invasive and has minimal side effects and no downtime. It is a quick treatment that busy patients can have done over a lunch break. It provides immediate results with virtually no pain. HOW OFTEN SHOULD IT BE DONE? Because this procedure removes up to 3 weeks of dead skin cells that have accumulated, the results last up to 4 weeks. CAN IT BE DONE ON ALL SKIN TYPES? Dermaplaning is suitable for all ages and for almost all skin types! Our aestheticians do not recommended dermaplaning for acneic skin. IS THERE DOWN TIME? There is no down time with this procedure. If you use makeup, you can apply it immediately after a treatment and continue on with your day. HOW DOES IT AFFECT MAKE UP APPLICATION? Dermaplaning allows for greater penetration of skincare products and it eliminates that annoying peach fuzz that cakes up in makeup. Your foundation will glide on more smoothly than ever! WILL MY FACIAL HAIR GROW BACK THICKER / DARKER? Since dermaplaning does not alter the hair follicles in any way, the light vellus hair that you may have on your face will grow back the same size, shape and colour. If you have a few courser, darker hairs, they will come back the same way (you can permanently reduce those dark hairs with laser treatment). CAN’T I JUST USE A RAZOR? A dermaplane facial has a similar function to the “shaving your face” at home with a razor, but it is much more effective because of the type of blade used. This one is much sharper than what you can typically purchase in stores, and by having a professional aesthetician take care of those problem areas you are much more likely to experience a better result. • Fillers

  As we age, collagen, the protein scaffolding that maintains skin firmness, gradually disappears and the dermis loses moisture. While Botox Cosmetic is the treatment of choice for dynamic wrinkles of the upper face, dermal fillers add volume that time has taken away. The process, known as soft tissue augmentation, uses injectable filler materials to treat fine to deep wrinkles, nasolabial folds, smile lines, oral commissures, and scars. In addition, lips can be augmented and the face can be contoured. WHAT IS A DERMAL FILLER? There are many fillers available now, but the most popular are hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. They are designed to naturally fill depressions and lines associated with the loss of collagen that we experience over time. WHAT AREAS ARE COMMONLY TREATED WITH DERMAL FILLERS? Lips, temples, cheeks, marionette lines, periorbital can be treated with fillers. PROCEDURE Dr. Pascoe has extensive training and is adept at injecting with both small needles and cannulas. A topical anesthetic may be applied to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. HOW LONG WILL MY RESULTS LAST? Depending on the area treated and the amount of product injected, the results typically last up to 2 years. IS THE PROCEDURE FOR DERMAL FILLERS PAINFUL? The discomfort is minimal. The product contains lidocaine which minimizes any pain associated with the procedure. Topical anesthetic or ice applied to the area can be used to further minimize discomfort. ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS ASSOCIATED WITH DERMAL FILLER TREATMENT? Temporary redness and minor bruising are possible side effects. Avoiding ASA, Ibuprofen, and Omega fatty acids for 4 days prior to treatment will minimize this risk. With any injection, there is always a risk of infection or intravascular complication. It is important to select an injector who is experienced and trained in the treatment of these very rare but possible complications. I AM STILL UNSURE IF THIS IS THE RIGHT PROCEDURE FOR ME. DERMAL FILLER FAQS HOW LONG WILL MY APPOINTMENT BE? An initial consultation is necessary to first outline the treatment. Depending on the area to be treated, the procedure will take 45 – 60 minutes. WILL I LOOK NATURAL AFTER MY TREATMENT? Dr. Pascoe prides herself on the delivery of a very natural look. Friends and family members may comment that you look more relaxed and attractive. WILL I HAVE TREATMENT THE SAME DAY AS MY CONSULTATION? This depends on the area (s) to be treated and the time needed for your initial consultation. If you desire, we can arrange the treatment to be on the same day. CAN I HAVE INJECTIONS AFTER A LASER TREATMENT? We suggest that you wait a week before an injectable treatment to allow your skin to totally heal. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BOTOX AND DERMAL FILLER? Botox is a muscle relaxant and is used to treat lines caused by muscle movement. Dermal Fillers are designed to fill depressions caused by loss of collagen which we all experience over time. CAN BOTOX AND DERMAL FILLERS BE USED IN COMBINATION AT THE SAME TREATMENT? Yes, Botox and dermal fillers are very often used in combination with each other during the same treatment. The combination of the two can actually achieve the best results.

• Juvéderm® Volite

  New to the Juvederm lineup, and from the makers of Botox™, Juvéderm® Volite – an innovative injectable treatment designed to improve skin quality for up to 9 months. Volite is not a dermal filler. It’s a skin conditioning gel (hyaluronic acid, HA). A hyaluronic acid treatment that, unlike the typical dermal fillers, works on the condition and quality of the skin. Volite is the first injectable treatment that provides clinically proven dermal hydration for up to 9 months after one treatment. WHAT IS JUVEDERM VOLITE? Volite is a Hylauronic Acid (HA) based product that uses the unique patented VYCROSS® technology for which Juvéderm products have become famous. The HA molecule occurs naturally in the body and can hold up to 1000x its own weight in water. Each syringe contains 13ml of cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA) with much smaller sized molecules than other hydro-filling products. This allows for faster absorption. WHY IS HA IMPORTANT FOR MY SKIN? As we age (as early as mid 20s), HA levels begin to deplete, causing our skin to loose its elasticity and collagen. Volite treatments increases hydration and elasticity. They also stimulate collagen production which helps smooth the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines. While there are many superficial injections involved in this treatment, a topical anaesthetic is applied and the needle used is very small (smaller than a Botox needle). IS THERE DOWNTIME? After treatment, there is typically some redness that goes away within 30 to 90 minutes. HOW QUICKLY WILL I SEE RESULTS? Results start to appear immediately, and come fully into effect over the next 10 days. IS THIS A DERMAL FILLER? No. Volite is a hyaluronic acid gel that will not change the shape of your face. Volite simply provides your skin with hydration from within. WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS? You can get small raised areas at the injection sites, but these usually disappear with 1-2 hours following treatment. Bruising, redness and tenderness to the injection site is common but will resolve in several days. WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER TREATMENT? Avoid alcohol consumption for 48 hours. You will also need to avoid strenuous exercise for the same length of time. Extremes of temperature like sun bathing, UV light and saunas need to be avoided for 2 weeks after the treatment. • Excel V Laser

  HOW DOES EXCEL V WORK? Excel V, which was developed by Cutera, is a new laser system for providing treatment of a variety of vascular skin conditions. Many skin conditions manifest in the form of broken or abnormal blood vessels in the skin, such is the case with rosacea, in which the facial blood vessels dilate excessively causing redness and flushing. Excel V treats these conditions by administering a unique high power green laser that is absorbed by the abnormal blood vessels in the skin. The laser heats the abnormal vessels until they are removed. At the end of treatment, the patient’s natural skin tone and colour are restored. ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS OR DOWN TIME? There are no long term side effects or down time. HOW DO THE TREATMENTS FEEL? The system uses innovative cooling technologies to ensure patient comfort. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF EXCEL V COMPARED WITH OTHER TREATMENT OPTIONS? The benefit of Excel V is that the treatment can be highly adjusted to ensure that the physician is delivering a level of treatment that specifically matches the patient’s skin condition. The system contains various wavelength modes, allowing the delivery of both short pulses for superficial blemishes, such as small lesions and skin discolouration, and longer pulses for deeper vascular conditions, such as leg veins and nodular port wine stains. • Soft Lift

  Soft Lift is a non surgical approach combining the use of Botox and Juvederm to regain a youthful and fresh appearance. As we age, we lose volume in cheeks, temples, and the lower face which causes folds, lines, and wrinkles. Soft Lift utilizes Botox and Juvederm (dermal filler) to replace the loss of volume and relax muscles. You will be amazed at the results that can be achieved in this non surgical process. Dr. Pascoe will consult with you and outline a treatment plan to achieve the result you desire. The treatment plan can be completed in one session or in mutliple sessions if you prefer. There is no downtime associated with this procedure.
